I was born on a farm near Rhoscrowther, South Pembs in 1968. The land there rolls down onto the muddy shores of Kilpaison and the towers of heavy industry, the oil refineries of Milford Haven, stand tall on the hill above.
I have been a boatbuilder, a woodworker and a songwriter and a few years ago I started making these metal sculptures.
I begin with clay, make moulds and build up the forms in welded steel. I use different grinders to carve and finish the pieces and let them rust slowly outdoors. I often think about all that rusty old machinery from the farm years ago, slowly dissolving in the brambles.
The installation in the window is a tableau of human figures I started making a few years ago. My idea was to build a collection that could be photographed outdoors, either on the beach or interacting with certain objects. I hoped that by playing with scale, I could tell some of the stories that mattered to me.
