Swansea Print Workshop operates an open access policy. Anyone can use the facilities during scheduled open access hours or by becoming full members. The workshop is run by experienced printmakers and is designed to meet the needs of both beginners and professionals alike.

A variety of workshops and master classes take place regularly in the main studio, where beginners and experienced printmakers can often be seen working side by side. There is excellent natural light and a comprehensive facility for creating prints of all kinds.

We have facilities for relief printing, collagraph, etching and screenprinting. See individual sections for the bed sizes of the presses available. A UV exposure unit supports the exposure of plates and screens for photo etch and photo screenrint. Additionally it is used for the popular process of cyanotype

Glass topped inking areas provide work surfaces and a large selection of relief, etching and water based inks are available. There is also provision for dampening and drying large sheets of paper, a grounds preparation area and a drying cupboard for curing plates.

We stock a full range of materials and papers specifically chosen to ensure quality and consistency of outcome and are happy to offer advice to users and visitors on all aspects of the workshop.

Cardiff Print Workshop is based within two adjoining rooms of Market House, part of Chapter Arts Centre in Canton, Cardiff. The Studios are equipped to provide facilities for copperplate etching / aquatint, photo-intaglio, cyanotype, collograph, monotype wood-block and lino-cut printmaking techniques.

Cardiff Print Workshop was first set up by ‘AADW’ (Artists and Designers in Wales) in 1979 as an open access printmaking workshop. It is now permanently based at Chapter Arts Centre in Canton where they run art classes and printmaking courses for the membership and the wider public. The organisation operates as an artists' co-operative and currently has almost 30 members. These are made up of both amateur and professional artists and printmakers seeking to develop their technical skills and artistic practices, whilst also exhibiting and promoting their work as part of the group. CPW is a valuable resource for artists and graduates who otherwise may lack the space and equipment to continue printmaking.

Cardiff Print Workshop holds regular open days for visitors to view the studio and facilities. There is also a small gallery offering changing exhibitions of the members' work and a huge variety of hand made prints for sale at affordable prices, open every Saturday from 10-4.

Aberystwyth Printmakers operates a printmakers’ workshop just outside Aberystwyth in leafy Brogerddan. The workshop is open to all members of the group. We offer a range of printmaking courses for beginners, supervised sessions for printmakers wanting technical advice and open sessions for experienced members. The workshop is currently set up for Intaglio, Relief and Lithography. For a full list of our facilities see the equipment list below.

We can do etching with copper plates using traditional wax grounds but we also offer the use of BIG an ink ground developed by Andrew Baldwin, the printmaking technician at the School of Art in Aberystwyth.  This is rolled onto the metal plate and then cured on a hot plate or in an oven.

We can and do use other metals and mordants, other than ferric chloride.  These are set up on an as needed basis in horizontal baths. In addition to etching the etching presses are also used for drypoint plates and for producing monoprints.

Relief printing  –  lino, woodcut, collograph etc – is done mostly on the Albion press.  For larger prints, however, we have calibrated the Tofko etching press to take a wide range of plate thicknesses and we have used it successfully for relief printing.

We supply a range of printing paper, relief and etching inks, wax and acrylic grounds, tissue paper and newsprint. Our artists can purchase these as required.
